Venue and Function HireThe Durban Undersea Club facilities are available for hire to members and members' guests for functions such as weddings, birthdays (kids and adults), wakes and company functions.
The basic cost of hiring the venue is:
Member private function R800.00 Member Corporate function R1200.00
Guest private function R1500.00
Guest Corporate function R2000.00
There is also a minimum staff cost which at present is as follows:
From 6pm to 12 am
Duty manager: R180.00 Bar manager: R180.00 Bar Hand R120.00 Cleaner R120.00
10% compulsory service charge to be levied for bar and kitchen bills. On a “non-opening” club day, a minimum of 6 hours of venue hire is required. On a day when the club is open to members, no minimum hiring time is required.
After 1 am it is double time per hour or part thereof for staff and R300 per hour venue hire.
Depending on numbers of expected guests at the function, we reserve the right to employ more staff, but this will be done in consultation with you.
The venue is usually only available exclusively on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday nights as the club is open to members on Thursday,Friday, Saturday and Sundays. However we can accommodate requests for Friday and Saturday nights as the club closes at 8pm If you are prepared to "share" the club with the members present until then , the venue is available for hire. The club is usually quiet on a normal Saturday night anyway (holidays excepted).
We are a licensed premises, so no drinks can be bought onto the premises for the function and all drinks will need to bought from the bar. We have the facility to run a tab for your guests or run a cash bar at club prices. Being a licensed premises the usual rules apply in terms of the guests being of age to purchase alcohol, so yes, ID doc's will be required if they look underage to the barman.
The club would also like the opportunity to quote for the catering as we have a fully equipped kitchen and excellent chef with function experience on staff . To do a lamb on spit with 3 salads, savoury baked potatoes and rolls would be R80 per head for up to 40 persons, R70 per head for more.
We can also do snack platters, munchie baskets, sandwiches, etc at various prices per head. For more info on this option, speak to the chef directly.
If you prefer al a carte check out our club menu: http://www.duc.co.za/club_house.htm, but this option takes more time, especially if there is a large group that need to eat at once as our kitchen facilities are limited to about 20 pax per sitting. If you are interested in this option, please contact the club for more details and prices.
A Refundable damage deposit to be paid prior to function of R1000.00 (this is refundable after any extra costs incurred deducted)
All venue hire to be confirmed in writing and the Club manager would like to meet with the responsible person and confirm all details and make payment arrangements.
We do not supply lighting (if you are looking at a disco type function) so it would be best to consult your DJ in this regard. (We can help with DJ hire if needed).
We have in the past erected marquee tents in front of the club and you are welcome to consider this option. The price depends on the size and style of marquee and either we can quote you to supply the marquee or you can source your own supplier. The only condition being that the marquee be removed by 8/9am the following morning so that the members can have unrestricted access (especially on a Sunday). This condition must be agreed to in writing by the supplier of the marquee and the hirer of the venue and any cost incurred by the club to remove the marquee in time will come out of the damage deposit.
