Thank you all those who attended our September Aquarist and fund raising meeting. We had amazing support from. so many members. It was great to also have the head of Sea World and quite a few ORI Scientists and uShaka staff who attended the meeting. Everyone’s support is sincerely appreciated.
Brian and Corlia from Reefteach, Sodwana Bay presented “Sex On the Reef”. I think it is safe to say we all learnt something about the reproduction of some of our marine species. They also generously gave us a 3 night 5 dive holiday for 2 people to raffle which a newly engaged Justin Hart won (Justin is a coral scientist with ORI).
Once again Rob and Jeremy from the dive factory came to the party giving us a wetsuit to raise money towards making our club house fish tank the best in Durban. Ralf Riggen was the lucky winner.
Scuba Pro continues to support us and we had the latest Super Nova fins to raffle. Dave McKay won those. Gavin Searl won the “Beer For A Year”… Not sure if he wants too many “Friends” to know about that one.
We honoured Maurice Mussell “The Old Man Of The Sea” who leaves us to join his son is Australia.
Thank you to all the members of the Aquarist Club who donated so generously towards a little something for all the help towards and knowledge given by Maurise to the younger generation over years. Thanks to Peter Peterson from Housewives Market for supplying us with Borewors at cost price. The Kameel Hout – Medium coriander, strong clove and mild nutmeg recipe went down very well with about 80 Borewors Rolls sold.
Thanks to Mike Van Rooyen, Salome De Oliviera and Paul Shannon for helping with ticket sales. Michelle De Oliviera did a great job organising the rolls and sorting the raffle tickets. Paul Roodmann aka Elvis provided the live music ending in a jam session which we thoroughly enjoyed. Thank you to Mike and your team for setting up, lighting the braai fires and looking after all those thirsty soles. Last but not least thanks to tom for coming up with the idea for the evening and making it happen. He also did all the braaing.
The aquarist meeting is generally held on the last Tuesday of the month 18:30 for 19:00. We are a relatively new branch of DUC and hope to expand the participation. Future meetings will include a Coral Fragging evening which should be very interesting. We hope to arrange a group dive with Stewy on a Sunday and a Rock Pool collection day on a spring low tide in the near future.
