Advanced Course
Participating in an Advanced
Dive program is your next step after becoming comfortable with your
basic skills, now is your time to conquer new tasks, see different
creatures, journey into diverse environments and experience new
adventures and most importantly, have FUN. The Adventures in Diving
program (Advanced Openwater Course) gives you a chance to gain
practical diving experience under supervision in relaxed and
friendly environment.
The ADVANCED COURSE starts when you attend the only lecture required
on the course. This lecture is free and there is no obligation to
continue with the course if you attend. What it will do is set you
up so that you are ready to complete the course whenever it suits
you without having to attend the lecture again. There is no exam on
the course.
The course could be done over a minimum of three days, diving twice
a day on two days and doing the navigation dive and lecture on
another.
Otherwise the course can take as long as it takes for you to
complete the dives at your convenience. If you have not dived for
awhile, we can use the shore navigation dive session as a refresher
before you go on a boat dive.
There are two payment options for the Advanced course. The first is
the "pay-as-you-go" option.
In this option the lecture is free and you pay for the manual (R400)
and complete the knowledge reviews in the manual for each of the
dives you do. You then pay for the dives and any equipment hire on
the day of the dives. There are five dives involved in the course -
four in the sea and one navigation at Vetch's in front of DUC
(or Quarry if weather conditions
do not allow us to dive in the sea).
Sea Dives are R200 with DUC
Equipment hire is R50 an item per day for non DUC members or R30 per
item for Members
Navigation dive - R60 plus any equipment hire
Once you have completed the 5 dives, recorded them in your log book
and completed the knowledge reviews for the five Advanced dives
done, you then pay for your PADI Advanced certification – R400.
So to complete the course with this option should cost you R200 x4
=R800 (Dives off Durban)+ R60 (navigation) + R400 (manual) + R400
(certification) = R1660 + equipment hire. (depends on days diving –
min R240 if DUC member) = R1900.00
The advantage of doing the course this way is that you are able to
complete the dives with any PADI Instructor - not just with DUC.
This allows you more flexibility to dive with who you please
whenever you can – useful if you plan to travel or pressed for time.
The “pay as you go” option is also more affordable as you can spread
the payments over a couple of months if need be and dive with less
expensive operators. The only criteria is that you need to complete
the Advanced dives with a PADI instructor who will confirm that you
have completed the dive successfully by signing his details in your
log book.
The second option is the "package" option. This option costs
R1950.00 and includes the lecture, 4x sea dives, 1x navigation dive,
manual, certification, instructor fees and SCUBA equipment hire
(Tank, regulator and BC). This is payable upfront and you are
committed to completing the whole Advanced course with DUC.
In both options you will need to supply your own basic or "personal"
gear (mask , fins, snorkel, wetsuit, weight belt) - this is the
equipment we recommend you purchase or investing as it will ensure
that your equipment fits well and as a result you will enjoy your
diving more than if you have ill-fitting hired stuff. We are able to
offer unbiased advice on any intended purchases you might want to
make and point you in the right direction for your needs.
With the PADI system you are
able to be referred to another PADI centre worldwide to complete any
outstanding
requirements for certification should it be required.
